Sensient takes Quality Systems and Food Safety issues very seriously; this has been a long-term commitment from its leadership. As part of that commitment, our Bio-Ingredients plants in Europe work to achieve and maintain ISO certification and our facility in Juneau, Wisconsin was the first North American food ingredient company to gain the ISO 9000 certification in 1995. Today, all of our plants worldwide are rated EXCELLENT and SUPERIOR by AIB International for overall food safety and quality systems, while at our UK plant, our Chemistry and Micro laboratories also have achieved CLAS accreditation, and our Strasbourg facility is BRC (British Retail Consortium) accredited approving us as a supplier to the major European food retailers.
Complete traceability in the production chain is essential for our customers. Sensient has a well-developed product recall plan.
All of our facility plans for Food Safety incorporate the principles of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices). Sensient Bio-Ingredients also has an initiative to meet the GSFI (Global Food Safety Initiative) certification that is coordinated by CIES – The Food Business Forum.
Employee safety is of utmost importance. We have a detailed system that not only records and tracks all “actual” safety violations, but also the “near miss” violations. All plants have systems where safety audits are not just conducted by managers and supervisors, but by all employees. This way, we ensure that Safety is Everyone’s Business.
